Tamagodaruma, a media platform providing practical information on parenting, childcare, and family support, has joined the “Tomoiku Project,” a public awareness initiative of Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, as a media partner.
In support of the project’s mission, Tamagodaruma will share information on balancing work and family life, events, research findings, and other resources related to “Tomoiku”—the idea of raising children together at home, in the workplace, and across society—in ways that are practical and relevant to families.

What Is the “Tomoiku Project”?
The “Tomoiku Project” aims to create a society in which no single person is left to shoulder the burden of housework, childcare, or work alone, and where raising children can instead be supported collectively by families, workplaces, and the wider community.
Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare launched the “Tomoiku Project” in fiscal 2025 as an evolution of its previous Ikumen Project.
In addition to encouraging fathers to take parental leave, the initiative promotes the use of parental leave as an opportunity for families to reconsider how housework and childcare are shared, while also addressing long working hours and encouraging companies to improve workplace environments and organizational culture. The broader goal is to create conditions in which both men and women can balance work with parenting and family responsibilities.
The official project website provides a wide range of resources, including Tomoiku guides for companies and families, workplace-based parenting programs, training materials, seminars and events, research data, and tools designed to help families think about how they share household and childcare responsibilities.

Why Tamagodaruma Has Joined as a Media Partner
Tamagodaruma was created to make information on parenting, childcare, and family support easier to understand and more useful in everyday life.
The challenges surrounding parenting cannot be addressed within the home alone. Parental leave, working styles, the division of housework and childcare, workplace environments, and support from those around us all shape the experience of raising a family.
The idea at the heart of “Tomoiku”—that raising children should not rest on the shoulders of one person, but should involve families, workplaces, and the wider community—closely aligns with the direction Tamagodaruma has taken in its coverage of parenting and family support.
Through this media partnership, we aim to go beyond simply reporting on policies, programs, and survey results. We will also help readers understand what those developments mean for families in practice, what options are available to them, and how they may apply to their own circumstances.
What We Will Cover Going Forward
Tamagodaruma will continue to publish practical information for families and people considering parenthood, drawing on events, research, public resources, and other materials released through the “Tomoiku Project.”
- Parental leave for both fathers and mothers, and ways to balance work and family life
- Sharing housework, childcare, and family responsibilities at home
- Parenting and family-support initiatives in companies and workplaces
- Research findings and the latest data related to Tomoiku
- Seminars, events, and other related programs
By referring closely to official and primary sources, we aim to do more than simply relay the news. Our goal is to edit and explain information in ways that help families relate it to their own circumstances and make more informed decisions.
Turning the Idea of “Raising Children Together” Into Practical Information
There is no single right way to divide housework and childcare. Every family has different circumstances, priorities, and arrangements. At the same time, preventing one person from carrying an excessive share of the burden requires support not only within the household, but also from workplaces and society as a whole.
As a media partner, Tamagodaruma will help communicate the ideas and initiatives behind “Tomoiku” while continuing to provide practical information that gives readers an opportunity to think about family life, work, and the ways responsibilities can be shared.
